ACTIONS
Our three main objectives are as follows:

Bringing core equipment and training to strengthen GVO’s scientific, technical, and operational autonomy.

Creating a safety net composed of the diaspora, concerned citizens, scientists, technicians, and businesses to ensure OVG and the community it serves can become self-reliant.

Advocating passionately for Open Data Science in the Virunga Volcanic Province as we believe that there should not be walls to limit the progress of science.
To realise these objectives, our strategy is rooted in the notions of community, transparency, fairness, and sustainability.
What we have accomplished
Supporting the Goma Volcano Seismic Network
Since 2021, Linda Project has worked with GVO personnel and international partners to support the development of the Goma Volcano Seismic Network, or GVOSNet.
GVOSNet is officially registered with the International Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks under network code G7. The international registry identifies it as a network built, operated, and managed by the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo through GVO. It is the first Congolese-operated telemetered broadband seismic network in the Virunga region.
Linda Project’s contributions have included:

providing essential communications equipment (M2M Gateway, modems, etc);
-
supporting the acquisition of energy systems (including batteries and solar pannels), and surge-protection equipment;
-
helping configure secure communications between seismic stations and GVO via a dedicated first-class VPN network;
-
training GVO technicians in the configuration of modems and seismic digitizers;
-
supporting specialized software used in seismic monitoring;
-
providing a dedicated high-speed internet connection for the network since March 2023.
These contributions are also recorded in the official FDSN description of GVOSNet.
Facilitating equipment and institutional partnerships
Linda Project has helped GVO engage Congolese businesses, government authorities, scientific organizations, and international partners in support of volcano monitoring.
This work has included:

advising and assisting GVO in transparent equipment-acquisition processes;
-
helping facilitate support from RawBank for seismic and GNSS stations, and seismic-analysis software;
-
coordinating with the Volcano Disaster Assistance Program (VDAP) and other technical partners;
-
supporting maintenance, replacement parts, internet connectivity, and station operations;
-
and helping GVO researchers and technicians access specialized training and international scientific opportunities.
The purpose of this work is to help GVO acquire and sustainably operate the resources required for its mission.
Maintaining essential operations
Volcano monitoring cannot stop when an institution experiences a temporary budgetary or logistical crisis. Linda Project has therefore helped establish a safety net for essential GVO operations, including:

cellular-data costs for monitoring stations;

internet connectivity;
-
replacement parts;
-
technical maintenance;
-
communications equipment;
-
remote technical assistance;
-
and emergency operational support.
This support is intended to protect continuity while GVO develops stronger and more sustainable internal capacity.
Training
Linda Project supports the training and professional development of GVO researchers and technicians. Our support has included:

technical training in seismic instrumentation and telemetry;
-
participation in international conferences and workshops;
-
specialized training with scientific and volcano-monitoring institutions;
-
support for graduate education and research opportunities;
-
collaboration with Congolese and international scientists.
We believe that scientific infrastructure is sustainable only when local researchers and technicians possess the knowledge, authority, and resources required to operate it.
